Here we go again, the old lady shuffle for a few days and whining until everyone wants to have me move out, or take a lot of pain pills and shut up. In fact the pain grabbed me in the middle of the night last night, crawled over baby to get to hubby, screaming and cussing all the way to get him to make it stop. Don't really know what the heck he was going to do to make the pain go away and didn't really care, just wanted it to stop.
It kind of reminded me of my first wonderful birth. I had read "Spiritual Midwifery" and all those good books and had a great midwife. After about 24 hours of back labor went into the wonderful hospital at Ft.Sam Houston and had everything done to me and baby that I had read was awful. From the pain killers that knocked me out, but just between contractions, to the forceps, shave and trying to put him on the bottle.
I was a little onry even back then and just ignored them on most things. The fact that Seth was posterior and I was only 18 did not seem to help the awful situation. Man was that painful. But last night took the cake. I mean it felt like someone had put me on the PIT and I was having the worst back labor ever. Good thing there were only five of them. But that was enough to soak me in sweat and put me into shock.
Good thing my tall son was there and he immediately stepped into action. Boiled water and started slapping hot soaks on my back. That did the trick and stopped the spasms. Needless to say I am a little scared to go to sleep. The biggest bummer is I don't think I will be able to run tomorrow. May still be able to do my long hike Saturday, but very gingerly and taking the bus down instead of running. What a baby back I have!
Sorry if you were misled. I am not a "hotmom" I am a "hotmom" as in a pissed off mom. Join me on a journey from "super religious" mom to "anarchist" mom.

LOW BACK BLUES
I am trying to send positive vibes to my low back so that it will cooperate and get along with me. It is not listening. It refuses to let me move and sit and lay down and all the other things I really need and like to do. I did not go for a run this morning, thinking if I was nice to it it would cooperate. Wrong!
For 33 years now I have had problems with my hips and sacrum area. I have tried pilates, yoga, chiropractors, physical therapists, pain pills, triathlon, and accupuncture. All to no avail. I read a book that said if you ignore it that it will go away, that by the way does not work either.
I remember my grandma of 9 kids walking around just like I do. The difference was she was really old and I am just creeping up on old. The real problem is my back tends to just wig out at the most inconvenient and awkward times.
The next step is gasp, and sigh seeing the Doc. I have seen so many of my clients with similar back problems who went to so many docs with no relief. But on my bucket list I have to get my back fixed, so I am not ready to hobble around for another 45 years! Time to find the "cure".

ROLFING
I had a nice easy going Rolfing treatment today, and guess what? I feel great. I hate to admit it almost because if it was this simple why didn't I do it a few decades ago? I have suffered with low back pain since I was 15 yrs. old and if it was as simple as a few Rolf sessions I will sure be mad at myself.
I have tried chiropractics, yoga, pilates, massage, physical therapy, extreme sports, going to bed, accupuncture and of course lots of prayer. All to no avail. Sometimes it will get better for periods of time, like even months on end. But then it will flare up and this time for two years. When I was pg. and nursing, which was 15 years, I felt great. At least as far as the back was concerned it felt great.
The Rolfer only did about five adjustments on me, but the areas were definately bound up and sure felt good to do some myofascial release on them. I will keep you posted on the stickability of the work.
The other thing it could be is the fact that I am on some heavy duty pain killers for my monthly migraine. Hard to tell which is which.
We did watch a really good movie tonight. Good to me, but not to good to someone who has a problem with lots and lots of foul language.
The name of it was Gran Toreno. It was by and of course starred Clint Eastwood. I thought it had a great message and was certainly pretty powerful. Now if I watch it again without all the pain killers I may have a toatlly different opinion about it, but for now that is my story and I'm stickin with it!
