My son returned from his bike ride this afternoon. I heard him from the kitchen talking to my daughter. She asked him how his ride was and he said good, really cool in fact because I got in two wrecks!
Now there is a problem with being an ex biker mom. My first question was not how are you, or are you alright? No my first question was how is the bike. I guess in my mind I knew that if he was sitting there talking he could not be hurt too badly, or he was in shock and I better treat him for it.
The wrecks were both his fault and I hope he learned before he does get hurt. In the first one he was riding on the tail of a little Honda and of course the Honda stopped quickly, boom he hit the car and flew over his bike to land on the back of the car. Thank goodness he survived. The driver came out and started asking him how he was doing in Spanish. My son told him that he did not speak so the guy asked in English is he was o.k. He said he was fine and they went on their way.
The next one the bus just ran him right off the road. Thank goodness no one can go very fast in their cars here, that probably saved his life today.
Sorry if you were misled. I am not a "hotmom" I am a "hotmom" as in a pissed off mom. Join me on a journey from "super religious" mom to "anarchist" mom.

Summer At Last
It is beautiful today, I mean freakin beautiful. Like the kind of day you just want to hang out at the park or go for a bike ride, or just sit in the sun and meditate. Awesome I think we have survived another super wet ugly rainy season. We will be better, wetter, stronger people for it I am sure.
My awesome baby did not have to take her English exams. So glad they finally realized she speaks English. Maybe they were confused and thought she was speaking Chinese or something. Not sure.
We are thinking about Thanksgiving next week and planning the menu. Roasted chickens and the works. Heading to the beach the next day is the best part of Thanksgiving this year. I have it very carefully timed so that we "have" to take a student to the beach every year on my birthday. Now isn't that convenient. I cannot think of anything I would rather be doing on my birthday, than teaching massage and going to the beach.
I love my life!

Happy Saint Patty's Day
When the kids were all young we really did St. Patty's day. I mean the green oatmeal and the whole enchilada. The kids loved it and I enjoyed celebrating some part of my heritage. I am (are you ready for this?) French, Scotch, Irish, English. I think that would be all of it. Anyway so we will be doing tacos for dinner. You did read that I said we celebrated when the kids were young right?
The Inestroza family will be celebrating in Pinas Blancas, a little border town just this side of Nica. Yeah unfortunately they did not quite make it to Hondurus yet. Seems CR protects it's children, even from their own parents. You cannot take a child out of CR without written permission from his parents. Oh yeah you heard that right, even if the child is leaving with both parents. Oh yeah you heard right, even if he is also a U.S. citizen. Big wake up call about what is going on here in the way of big brother. I had to call the embassy here to make sure the kids had not misunderstood this, yeah they were right.
It would have helped if my daughter had not blown a gasket, but now remember. They went and visited Hondurus a couple of months ago. Did they get stopped? NO! Did they get questioned about said papers? NO! In other words this lady was having a lousy day, My son-in-law, bless his heart, had to go back and grovel four times just to prevent them having to go all the way back to liberia to get the paper. She was "kind" enough to allow the lady that works there on the border,,imagine that... come and sign them off. Of course in the meantime the bus had left and they had to pay ten bucks each to change their tickets to tomorrow. Plus thirty bucks for a little cabina, no air, no tv. no nada!

New Friends
I love it when I meet someone new who speaks English, especially at the pool where I am always alone in my mind at least. Today there a was a tall blond in a lane by herself, about my speed, so I jumped in the lane with her. Toward the end of my workout I asked her if I could borrow her kick board, as I have not been able to speak with anyone about using the locked up ones. I have a feeling they are not free to use, just a guess. After we were both done we got to talking and the best news in the world, he and her hubby just opened a multi-sport store! I told her the drawback to meeting her is that I am going to be broke now! They even have bikes, I am getting closer to my bike I can feel it!

Visiting Teaching
For church we are each assigned two or three ladies from church to visit and keep an eye out for. It is a great system, when it works. I read an article on a blog about how Mormons are great at circling their wagons. That is the truth and that is the purpose behind visiting teaching. If you visit these sisters you know when something is not going well and they need help. A new baby, sick kids, family tragedies and sometimes just a bit of depression or something like that is great reasons for wagons to circle.
I have had the wagons circle for our family and will be forever grateful for those who helped. After baby six I had an abdominal catastrophe that called for two weeks in the hospital after baby, and about four weeks of bed rest. The ladies from church, as well as friends from the Post Office brought in meals for six weeks. That is a long time to get people to cook for a family of eight! They were awesome meals too.
This month I was determined to visit the three women assigned to me and a friend. She speaks a little English and they speak none, nada! I spent the last three days baking bread and cookies and fudge to pack up for them. I sent my daughter with the goodies and let her explain to them, her Spanish is much better than mine.
One of the ladies sent home a gift for our family. A little loaf of fruit cake, drenched in rum. Yup that's right a rum cake to our Mormon family from their Mormon family LOL!!!

FELIZ CUMPLEANOS
Today was a fun day for baby. We spent yesterday afternoon making cupcakes for her to take to school and share with her classmates for her birthday. Saturday is her birthday and today was her last day of school before a few day break off school. All the kids loved her cupcakes and she was tickled pink to be the boss for the hour.
We all sang "Happy Birthday" in Spanish and then in English. Several of the kids in her class knew how to sing it in English. They are all so cute when I go to the school, they all want to say "hello" and "thank you". It is fun to work with them.
I made the comment to the teenager with me that it is hard to believe that in 10 years they are all going to be a bunch of bratty teenagers! They are so cute right now. We stuck around for a few minutes and watched baby playing on the playground with the other kids. Interesting thing, she plays with the boys! I guess it is having four older brothers.
Teenager got a job today. She is going to work at the internet store at the mall a few days a week. She said there is plenty of time just sitting around so she could get her school work done. We will see how long that lasts!

COSTA RICA SUMMER
We are getting ready for our three weeks of summer. Baby gets three weeks off school and it looks like a beach trip waiting to happen for sure. We are all looking forward to some time off of school as well as enjoying some dry weather. It did not rain yesterday and only for a short time today, very nice.
Today was our parent-teacher conference for babies' class. It went well as far as I could tell. Her grade card looks pretty good, considering she is still learning Spanish. It was funny because I was asking her teacher which public school she would recommend for her next year. She said we should think about a private one so she does not lose her English.
That is pretty funny since her mother does not speak Spanish. Other than that when I asked baby before the meeting what she wanted me to ask her teacher she said "ask her about my dancing". Well it is good to know that the language of dance is a universal language and she is doing great in that one! She will be dancing soon for her school and if very excited. Looks like we may be starting dance classes real soon.

HAPPY FLAG DAY
Since today was flag day we had a lesson on the U.S. flag with baby. She proceeded to tell us what all the colors stood for, since she has had the same lesson in school for the C.R. flag, same colors anyway. The biggest thing she could think about was that she is getting a traditional celebration skirt and top to do her dance in.
She will be dancing at the Parque of Diversions with the other kids in her school. The most important part of course is the new outfit, always about the outfit. Her teacher was trying to explain the whole thing to hubby, but we are sending the big sis tomorrow to translate for us.
The end result was she got to learn about the U.S. flag and the pledge and the National Anthem. We will have to keep working on these. She has aactually learned the first part of the C.R. anthem which is super long, I mean really long. So she can sing the C.R. national anthem, in Spanish no less, and I have to work to teach her ours in English!
I think it is important, especially since we live abroad to teach our children patriotism. There are many things to love about the U.S. and people to appreciate for their sacrifices to provide us our freedoms, which are quickly fading. I would challenge all to make sure they know the history and facts of our country.
